Established in 1970 and housed in a classical 1934 tea pavilion, it gets its name from the nearby Serpentine Lake. An art gallery in Kensington Gardens, central London, the Serpentine Gallery focuses on modern and contemporary art. Since founded in 1970, the gallery has established a world-wide reputation for quality, and the presentation of modern and contemporary art. The Serpentine Gallery undertook a £4 million renovation of the Gallery, which was undertook and completed in 1998.
